Dye
DEFINIZIONE
  • n. It refers to the succession of operations necessary to give a textile a varied colouring according to requirements. Silk is dyed in two different ways. On the one hand, on the thread placed on a reel, which is called reel dyeing and is carried out on raw silk. It can be done on a silk where the stoneware has been partially dissolved (partial pickling), or on a boiled silk where the stoneware is completely removed by the boiling process, i.e. the silk is placed in a boiling soap bath for about 30 to 45 minutes. The stoneware is then completely dissolved and the silk is said to have come off. On the other hand, in the manufactured yarn, it is piece-dyed. Pure silk fabrics are subjected to the same preparations prior to dyeing as floating silks, i.e. they are partially or completely degreased. Bleaching of boiled silk with sulphur is sometimes carried out for light dyeing. Different cold dyeing processes are used for decorative effects.
