  • n. From the Old English "wefta" "weft" "wift" and Middle English "wyft" "weeft" "wefte" among others. It refers to the transverse threads of a textile that crosses from side to side of a web, that is, through the sheds, at right angles to the warp threads with which they are interlaced. The term weft denotes all the picks in a textile.
