Louis XVI style
DÉFINITION
- It refers to a style in the arts and decoration which emerged in France in the 1750s and was fully developed by the time Louis XVI ascended to the throne in 1774. In textiles, it is featured by its symmetrical and measured application of herds, trophies, viturvian scrolls, and floral and ribbon motifs. The ornamental motifs are smaller than the natural. More rigid vertical stripes. Some classical architectural motifs are also present.
