TERME PRÉFÉRENTIEL
Draw loom
DÉFINITION
- A type of hand loom designed to facilitate the weaving of figured polychrome fabrics with intrincate design details that repeat across the width and length of the cloth. The drawnloom has a upper section called figure harness, that consists of the leashes, to control de design. The cords controlling the drawnloom figure harness permit the automatic repeat of the pattern in the width of the textile by joining to each pulley cord the necking cords that correspond to the different comber units. A repeating pattern in the length of the textile is produced by repeated pulling of the lashes in the same order. It is no clear whether the drawloom originated, if in Chine or in the Middle East. The Jacquard loom superseded the drawloom.
