  • n. A term, taken from the Italian, denoting a kind of ornamental decoration, usually used in sculpture and architecture, but which can be applied to textile decoration. It consists of a vegetable decoration in which some types of leaves as acanthus or tendril ones are shown in vertical stripes or columns.
