DEFINITION
  • n. From the Latin "bursa" and the French "bourse" meaning purse. From previous forms as "burss(e)" "buss" "burze" "byrse". It is a type of wallet or receptacle for the corporal or linen cloth used to cover the elements of the Eucharist. It measures about 12 inch, in a square shape, and is covered with silk of the appropriate liturgical colour.
