Shawl
DEFINITION
- n. From the Persian "shāl", first adopted by Urdu and other Indian languages and from them, into all European languages. Originally a fabric article worn by Asian people in the shape of a scarf, turban or girdle, manufactured in Kashmir. Nowadays it is a clothing article worn, mainly by women, as a covering for the head and/or shoulders. It is an oblong or square piece, of any textile or netted fabric that can be woven, knitter or crocheted by hand or machine from natural or manufactured fibres.
