DEFINITION
- n. It is a term inherited from Germanic. From previous forms in Old English as "nedl" "nethl" and Middle English "nedil" "nedille" among others. It refers to a slender pointed instrument for piercing and drawing thread through cloth, etc., having a hole or eye at one end for thread to pass through.
