DEFINITION
- n. Middle English from a Scots and northern English variant of obsolete twilly, from Old English twi- ‘two’, suggested by Latin bilix ‘two-threaded’. It is an broad term, usually referring to any fabric made with a twill weave, which is characterized by a diagonal rib, or twill line.
