  • n. A termn borrowed from the Frenc "passementerie". It refers to the elaborately and decorative and often sumptuous trimming consisting of braids, tassels, gimps, etc., variously made from silk, linen, wool, cotton, and silver and gold thread, etc., popularized by French designs in the 17th cent.
