DEFINITION
- n. From the Old English "scytel" "sciutil" "scytel" and the Middle English "shittle" "shotil" "shetil" "schytle" among others. It is the instrument or tool or device by which the weft is passed through the shed opening in the warp in the weaving process. It comes in different shapes, as a boat, carpet, fly shuttle, among others.
