  • n. From the French "corset", diminutive of Old French "cors" meaning body. It is an under-garment item, close-fitting, really tight, fastened laced at the back or front, weared from middle ages, from below the chest to the hips. Generally used by women to give shape and support to the figure. It also was worn by men or women to help a weak or injured back.
