DEFINITION
  • It refers to a fund made with lots of flowers and plants that frame secular scenes or allegories. It was very popular especially in the decoration of tapestries and other applied arts during the Middle Ages in Europe. This style was very popular in the late 15th and early 16th centuries in French and Flemish tapestries. The term is also used to describe oriental rugs with a similar design, originally Persian, but subsequently produced in much of the Middle East and Mughal India. The medieval European style may have been influenced by miniatures or Persian rugs.
