Style of Jean François Bony
DEFINITION
- This style refers to those fabrics which follow the decorative line of Jean François Bony who was a draftsman, embroiderer, silk maker and French flower painter. He was active before, during and after the French Revolution. He began his training at the School of Design and Art in Lyon. After the Revolution he collaborated with Camille Pernon for his signature, and in 1805 on a visit from Napoleon and his empress to Lyon he was named as the manufacturer of his own designs. In 1806 he won a silver medal in l'Exposition des produits de l’industrie for his embroidery; He was the only medalist who received his award due to the beauty of his design and not the innovation of his technique.
