Louis XV style  
DEFINITION
  • A term used, mainly in France, to refer to a style in the arts and decoration corresponding to the Régence (1715–23) and the first half of the reign of Louis XV (1723–74). It is featured as more informal and intimate, in contrast with large-scale magnificence of the Louise XIV style. Textiles are characterized by sinuous, parallel lines, with abundant branches, which trimmings and lace are interspersed.
