Definition
A complete explanation of the intended meaning of a concept- Subst. masc. Serait tiré du chinois pun-chi, "métier à tisser". Taffetas léger, souple et mince, fabriqué en soie teinte en fil, ou en soie et schappe. Le véritable pongé était fabriqué en Asie, au Japon ou en Chine d'où il arrivait en Europe en écru ou simplement avec une première préparation et sans teinture : on le teignait, l'apprêtait et le finissait à la manière occidentale. Il existe un pongé lyonnais, un taffetas de soie, chaîne grège et trame de schappe, réalisé à Lyon, qui est une imitation plus épaisse des pongés asiatiques.
