Definition
A complete explanation of the intended meaning of a concept- Subst. masc. Empr. à l'ar. kamḫā "brocard" qui viendrait lui-même du chinois kinchâ ou kimcha. Cette soie luxueuse apparaît en France en 1316. C'est une riche étoffe damassée, brochée d'or, blanche ou noire, ornée de gouttes multicolores et souvent décorée d'oiseaux. Commercialisée à partir de Constantinople sous le nom de "camocas d 'outre-mer", elle était fabriquée en Perse, puis à Badgad, à Damas et à Alexandrie. A partir du XVème siècle le terme "camocas" est supplanté par "damas".
